Three things you need to know

AI has started signing its own work — but not all of it

From 2 August, new EU rules require AI tools to mark what they produce so machines can detect it. Text is the hard part, and the list of who actually does it is short.

Marking text today: Claude and Google Gemini. Claude’s mark is invisible, survives copy and paste, and applies worldwide with no opt-out.

Not yet, but committed: OpenAI updated its policy on 2 August saying it intends to extend marking to text. Meta, Microsoft and Mistral signed the same code with nothing documented yet.

Opted out entirely: xAI, which didn’t sign at all.

Images and audio: far more widespread. OpenAI, Google, Meta and Microsoft all attach provenance to generated images — the same standard Adobe, the BBC and several camera makers use.

Why it matters: it’s leaky — a rewrite strips a text mark, a screenshot strips an image one, and removal tools appeared within a day. But the direction is set, and it points somewhere useful: as machine-made content becomes cheap and detectable, work that is visibly human starts to carry a premium it hasn’t had in years.

Platforms have started demoting AI content

Spotify opened self-declaration to artists on 11 August and will show “AI Persona” badges from next month — and those profiles get excluded from its recommendations. It won’t rely on honesty either; it’s reviewing profiles itself, starting with the most listened-to. Substack and the music tool Suno have made similar moves.

Why it matters: the penalty isn’t removal, it’s invisibility. That logic will not stay in music. If you publish anything — posts, articles, product copy — the safe position is AI in the drafting, you in the final product, and your name genuinely on it.

Manus: four days left

A reminder from last week. For affected Manus accounts, anything created after 29 December 2025 gets deleted between 23 and 24 August. The backup window closes at 00:59 UK time on 23 August.

Two tips worth stealing

If you do it twice in a day, stop doing it

Spend a week noticing what you repeat. Anything that comes round more than once a day is a candidate — putting a quote together, branding a PDF, writing a LinkedIn post, the same three emails.

The quick fix is a Skill in Claude: you walk it through the process once and it repeats it the same way every time you ask. That alone is worth doing.

The better fix, once something has proved itself, is a proper tool — built using AI, but not calling AI every time it runs. That distinction is where the money is. A Skill costs you usage on every single run. A built tool costs you once to make, then runs for nothing, forever, at whatever hour you trigger it.

Teach Claude your business on the drive to work

Next time you’re in the car, open Claude and talk. Not a prompt — just explain your business the way you would to someone you’d met at an event and had five minutes with.

Don’t organise it. Ramble. Then ask Claude to turn it into a short summary and paste that into your profile settings. Every conversation from then on starts already knowing who you are and what you’re trying to do — and you never explain yourself twice again.

Update your CRM from the driver’s seat

An MCP connection is how an AI tool plugs into other software. If you’ve dealt with integrations before, you’ll know these as APIs — same idea, standardised so an AI can use it directly rather than needing a developer in the middle. Most major business systems now ship one: CRMs, accounting packages, email, file storage, project tools.

Once it’s connected, you stop opening the software to use it. You just ask.

Step 1 Check whether your system has one. Most mainstream CRMs and accounting packages now do — search the name plus “MCP”, or ask us.

Step 2 In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors, find your system and connect it. Sign in and approve the access, same as any other app.

Step 3 Ask instead of clicking. “Log a call with Henderson — they want pricing on the larger unit.” “Move that deal to proposal stage.” “Give me a summary of everything that happened on my accounts today.”

Step 4 Do it by voice. This is the step that changes your week.

The bit that actually saves you time

Twenty minutes driving back from a client visit is normally twenty minutes of slowly forgetting. With the CRM connected you talk it through on the road, and it’s all logged before you’re home — activities updated, deals moved, next actions set. It’s an EA who never leaves the desk, never has an off day, and works at eleven at night.

And if your system hasn’t got one? Plenty don’t — particularly bespoke or older CRMs. If it has an API, and nearly all do, an MCP connection can be built against it. That’s a job we do regularly, so reply and we’ll tell you what’s involved for yours.
